New Facebook rocket icon links to ‘complementary’ second news feed

Some Facebook users are seeing a new rocket icon on their menu bar. It’s appeared on iOS and Android apps and links to a second news feed of content chosen for the user by Facebook.

The company calls it “a complementary feed of popular articles, videos and photos, customised for each person”.A spokesperson told Newsbeat: “We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore new content they haven’t connected with yet.”It’s the latest in a series of recent changes and tweaks that have got some people asking what else Facebook has planned.

Facebook has a history of testing new features on small groups before rolling them out more widely if they prove popular.t’s not known at this stage whether the rocket will end up being rolled out. It’s believed the second feed flags up content, like articles and videos, that Facebook algorithms select for the user based on past likes and interests.

This user says he had the rocket icon, but it’s gone now.Much like Instagram’s explore tab, the feed will link to things the user hasn’t expressly liked, but that is similar in tone or content.
